August 28th, 2011

When taking a trip overseas, the main thing you want is to have a safe an enjoyable trip. Of course, there are many possibilities where you may and or can run into some serious problems during your overseas trip. Being prepared and working to prevent these encounters from happening can and will help you to better enjoy your overseas destination.

The first thing you want to do is pack safely. Packing the right things will help to keep you from being a target. Dressing flashy should be avoided and wearing high priced jewelry is also something you may want to tone down as well. Travel light so you can move swiftly and fluently. Packing lightly will also keep you from wanting to sit your luggage down to rest.

Come up with a place where you can hide your valuable belongings, like credit cards, passport and cash. Hotels usually offer safes for this purpose so utilize them if you can. Try to keep your handbags and fanny packs to a minimum. If possible attempt to put your money in a pouch or money belt under your clothing. It comes off less revealing and less obvious to potential thieves.

To avoid being hassled by customs, packed medicines should always stay closed in the right containers. Make sure to bring along any prescription forms confirming that the medicines are what they say they are. Bring along travelers checks instead of money, they are easier to handle and plus if you lose them, you can always get them back. Make sure to have a couple of major credit cards on you for emergency purposes. And never bring things that you would hate to lose!

Last but most importantly, make sure that you own travelers insurance. Accidents happen so being prepared for those accidents are very important. Having travelers insurance will allow you to be treated for an injury or get medical services where needed.
